Jack and several men ran to the outskirts of the forest following the tracks of the beast. "I got you now you bastard!" He scowled as they reached the tree line. "EVERYBODY SPREAD OUT! SEARCH THE FOREST!" His men did as commanded. Storm clouds quickly rolled in hiding the nights full moon. "LIGHT YOUR LANTERNS!" Jack and his men then began searching the forest careful not to get separated. "These better work old man." He began to load his revolver with the silver bullets the old man gave him. "You two search there!" "Yes sir!" Both of them answered in unison. As they left Jack heard a twig snap. He aimed his revolver in anticipation. "Come out there's no where to hide." He spoke calmly and quietly. Slowly a man in tattered clothes came out from behind a tree. He had the look of a beast in his eye, and he smelled of wet dog. "Please don't ki.." The man began to beg for his life before he was interrupted by Jack. "Shut up!" He thingyed the hammer on the back of his revolver. "You killed my Wife and Daughter.... You're going to pay." There was a fire in Jack's eye. A fire that showed to all that he had nothing to lose. The man began to weep in front of him. "Please! I.. I.. It's that thing! I have no control of it!" The man crawled to Jack reaching for his booted feet. Jack kicked him in the side of the head. "Ahhhhhhh!" The man cried out in pain. "You deserve 10x as much as what you did to my family." The man began to weep again. "Stand like a man you coward!" The man did as commanded still weeping. Jack took aim as the storm clouds parted to reveal the Full Moon in all of it's glory. "I'm so sorry." That was the mans final word before the transformation began to take him. Jack stood in awe as the man slowly transformed into the beast he had been hunting these many years. After the transformation the creature reared it head and roared. Jack fired, and missed. The beast ran as Jack fired tracking him. "Dammit!" The Werewolf ran through the woods Jack running after it. Jack checked his revolver for ammo. "One left... better make it count!" Jack ran until heard the crashing sounds of a waterfall. He slowed until he reached the edge of said waterfall. "Where did you run to you d**ned creature." Jack closed his eyes focused his hearing on his surroundings until he found what he was searching for. He turned aiming finding a pair of glowing yellow eyes staring right back at him from the edge of the treeline. Jack took a deep breath looking down the sights of his barrel. "Steady." He softly spoke as the creature roared and charged him. "Aim." The beast snarled as it got closer. It was twenty yards away when it leaped into the air claws stretched forth ready to snare his prey. "Fire!" Jack fired his last remaining round into the creature just before the hit him carrying both of them over the edge of the cliff and down the water fall. Both of them tumbled limp down the river until they hit a rocky bank miles away from the water fall. There Jack laid unconscious as a curious pair of hands reached for his collar and began to pull him into the woods.
That night he had a dream. A dream of fire, blood, slaughter. Many people were being killed a savage monster that tore through the city of London. Jack's eyes snapped open in a flash. He shot up out of bed and instantly regretted it. He sore all over his body. He was drenched in sweat, shirtless and in a warm bed. To top it all off he was bandaged from the right of his neck and around his torso. "Where am I?" He asked aloud.
"You're in my home." Came a simple reply from his right. Jack to find an old woman slaving over a pot over a roaring fire. "Before you ask I found you on the bank of the river unconscious." She turned away from her pot and looked towards him. "You were in bad shape." She walked toward the bed and sat down in a rocking chair near the edge of it. "I bandaged you, healed your wounds, and before you ask again yes you did kill the other man..... but at a terrible price."
Jack massaged his head as she spoke. "And what price might that be?"
The old woman sat in silence simply staring at him. "The next full moon you will turn into the very creature you have been hunting."
Jack shot out of the bed after this. "What, Ahhhh!" He fell to the ground in pain. "I'm going to turn into that.. that... that thing!"
The old Woman raised a hand to calm him. "Do not fret child. You have a hunter's heart. A pure heart. You will not become the savage beast that cowardly man became."
"How do you know?" Jack looked at her in disbelief teeth clenched.
"Trust me I know these things." She walked to him helping back up and into bed. "You will be able to control it. The first change might be difficult, but you will learn. And with my help you will be able to learn to change at a moments notice."
"How can.... How can I trust you?" Jack laid in bed looking at the strange woman.
"Who else can you turn to?" The woman smiled at him.
Jack sat in silence and contemplated deeply. "Alright..... Alright you have point." He looked back to the old woman. "Please help me."
The old woman simply smiled at him. "That's a good boy."
Jack leaned on the wall of a tavern and lit his cigarette. He deeply inhaled and blew smoke out. "I wonder what will happen next?" He wondered aloud to no one. Jack then began to walk the lonely streets of London in the dead of night continuing to smoke.
